Inspired by Hatha and Yin practices, I facilitate sessions based on the Trauma Center Trauma Sensitive Yoga model (TCTSY).
TCTSY is a yoga based practice, developed through research at the Center for trauma and embodiment. It is designed to be therapeutic for people who have experienced complex or longitudinal trauma (trauma over time that occurs in relationship to others).
It can also be beneficial for people looking to reconnect with their own bodies, thoughts and feelings; and regain power and agency.
It is
non-judgemental
non-hierarchical
non-coercive
It is built from
Invitational language, such as 'if you like', 'you could' as everything offered in the session is optional
Choice-making by providing options you are welcome to try or not try such as a type of movement or shape
Opportunities to notice sensations in your body, which you may choose to try or not try
Utilmately it provides the opportunity to 'be in your body' and choose what you do with your body.
There is no goal or end point to achieve. All bodies, levels of yoga experience and physical fitness are welcome.
Sessions are typically 60 minutes.
This includes around 15 minutes at the begining of the session for describing the practice and providing context, followed by a 30 minute practice, and ending with 15 minutes where you are welcome to stay in the room to take time for yourself, ask questions or share reflections.
You are welcome to attend as many Yoga for self connection sessions as you like.
Courses will run at the same time, in the same place, on a weekly basis e.g. every Wednesday 6-7pm for 8 weeks.
Courses are closed groups and need to be booked as a block of sessions in advance. This means no new people join the course after the first week, creating consistency and predictability.
Around 80% of the content of weekly sessions are kept the same each week. The idea behind this is to support psychological safety and familiarity.
The other 20% will be varied, gradually layering different elements of TCTSY (choice making, noticing sensations, making choices based on sensations) and will depending on the group's preferences.
